This is a quaint little French cupboard dating to the late 19th century. It is a very unusual piece and we arent sure of its original intended use, possibly either as a kitchen cupboard for dough proving or perhaps a washstand. The cupboard is made of pine and mixed woods and is quite heavy despite its compact size. It has a rustic shabby chic look with an old painted finish which has crackled. The front is serpentine shaped and the top has a lift up lid which opens to reveal a shallow storage space inside, below this is a plain door fronting a cupboard with a fixed shelf. The door does not have a working key, the one shown is purely ornamental, used to help open the door. Condition This piece is generally in solid structural condition. There are many cosmetic marks and it is quite rustic and aged looking with wear and cracklng to the old painted finish and some old inactive wood worm holes to the back of the cupboard.
