Walter W Burgess (1846-1908) was a fine etcher and illustrator of the 19th century. Born in Southampton, he lived in Chelsea in later life and was famous for his collection of etchings Bits of Old Chelsea. He exhibited at Royal Academy between 1874-1903, and the British Museum and V&A hold examples of his work. This example of his work is a fine etching of 19th century Rochester in Kent, showing the castle and the River Medway. Signed lower right . Also monogrammed and dated 1886 on the plate on lower edge (hard to see!)
