William Henry Earp (1831-1914) was a prolific Victorian painter of landscapes in watercolour. Not much is known about him although he is said to have been based in Brighton. A lot of his paintings have unidentified locations (as here) although he is known to have painted in Scotland and Switzerland. This piece is full of wind and movement- distinctly Scottish looking weather! The lone fisherman on the beach balances the picture beautifully.
