William Tatton Winter (RBA 1855-1928) was a landscape painter, often in watercolour. Born at Ashton -under-Lyne. At an early age entered business in Manchester, and in the evenings studied at the Manchester Academy of Fine Arts. He took up art full-time, and visited Holland and Belgium, where he studied under Verlat at the Antwerp Academy. Elected RBA 1896.Exhibited at RA from1889.,also at the Paris Salon and in Munich 1902.In 1902 he was elected a member of the London Sketch Club. Exhibited principally at RBA showing 294 works and Walkers Gallery London where he showed 274 works but also at the Fine Art Society, RI, the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool and elsewhere. He lived in Reigate and painted many scenes in Surrey, Sussex and Kent. ‘St Georges Canterbury’ signed watercolour, indistinctly dated and inscribed with title.
