Charming oil on wooden panel by J McIntyre. The work beautifully and deftly depicts a woodland scene of silver birch in late Autumn, when the leaves have fallen and the bracken has died back. The painting is not signed on the front but is inscribed on the reverse. The artist is most likely John H McIntyre who lived in London and exhibited between 1896 and 1904 including twice at The Royal Academy. The painting is in excellent untouched condition. The gilt frame is of a simple design, in good condition with some slight areas of overpaint. The whole is a beautiful and evocative representation of nature and the peace of a woodland.
